The only study that is counter to the abundance of evidence in support of finasteride (a trial of 17,000 people is sufficient) was funded by the PFS organization. The Northwestern study is extremely biased as it's subjects were all members of the PFS organization, or taken from that website. It makes sense, too, that people would blame the drug. Men that are balding probably already suffer from a lack of self esteem and have depression. I know because I can readily admit as a healthy male (I do not have significant mental health problems, but family members do) that in my mid 20's I had "ED" and depression - it was just low self esteem. I didn't blame a drug or anything. I'm fine now because my life is better and my wank works fine, my depression is gone. People are always looking for the source of their woes - correlation does not imply causation. Furthermore I work in the medical field and am very familiar with evidence based practice and reviewing studies. All of the evidence thus far against propecia is very unscientific and breaks the cardinal rule of studies. They are all extremely biased. I will say that the fear mongering/horror studies have made me think twice about taking finasteride - but out of the three doctors I've talked to personally, none of them have been concerned with side effects. They've said hundreds of patients have taken it without any issue - and the ones with sexual side effects are older males. Naturally, when we hit 40 1 in 4 men will experience ED (and some younger men). That's just normal aging.
