Stopping propecia before hair transplant
Hello
I was wondering if there is an established view on stopping propecia before a hair transplant. I’ve been using it for six months and having agonised over the decision for years don’t really want to stop.
Dr Bhatti is very emphatic on his website “Finasteride should never be taken before the surgery. It will sustain thinning hair and the quality of grafts taken will be indeterminate. The hair maintained with Finasteride before the procedure will not grow well when you will stop Finasteride 6 months after the procedure. It will then affect the quality of the result.I advise patients to stop Finasteride 3 months before the procedure.”
However Spencer Stevenson has a different view and “recommends starting medical hair restoration treatment for at least a year before a hair transplant. "Minoxidil (brand name Rogaine) and Finasteride (brand name Propecia) are both FDA approved and you should get on one well before your hair transplant."
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I have tried searching.
Thanks
