Default Is this MPB at barely 17? 2 diagnosis for my kid

    My son
Family Dr. said no balding. Dermatologist said MPB. Any hope to stop with just rogaine and not fin? Just turned 17 in January.

I'm not a doctor, but if he's 17 and considering fin, since it's early I would try a micro dosing regiment of fin with minoxidil once daily. 1mg fina daily is challenging for a noticeable number of men and I believe it's overkill for a good chunk of men as well.

That being said He is 17 and with elements of puberty still possibly happening I don't know how finasteride would add to that equation. I would talk to a few doctors/endocrinologists about this for sure.

All the stuff you see on the internet is men freaking out about temporary side-effects. They're blown out of proportion because the only people motivated to go online and post are motivated out of negative circumstance. All the people getting awesome results have more awesome things to do.

This is the study that supports low therapeutic doses of fin: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10495374

I initially started with rogaine for a year at 24. Didn't notice any reassuring results so added fin after that.

I currently take .05mg of 1mg daily + minox at night for my diffuse thinning which I didn't notice until I was 24. I use a 1500 dollar scientific scale to measure the doses, but the gemini on amazon was what I used for 2 years and it worked just fine. No side-effects for me at this current dose. If he is thinning this early then it's likely more aggressive and that may need a slightly higher dose say .05 - .20mg.

Therapeutic dose response is different person to person. The blanket 1mg dose given to everyone is absurd overkill. , I'm talking from my 5 years of experience taking fina.

My regiment wouldn't work without minoxidil and the thinning would take over. Converseley it definitely wouldn't work with just minoxidil. Minoxidil is a supportive element in the therapeutic process.

That being said I hope this decision is his to make. I couldn't imagine the vanity of one person being the vanity of another which is why my brother is bald and Im not. Oddly enough my 70 year old father has a full head of hair so there's that.
