Question regarding 2% Ketoconazole CREAM

I have a bald spot on the back of my head and have been using minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo (over the counter) which contains 1% Ketoconazole. I know that there is a prescription shampoo that has 2% ketoconazole but I am not using it. Recently I went to see my doctor about itching on my neck and I was prescribed 2% ketoconazole cream.

My question is, can the cream be rubbed in and applied to the bald spot? Would it be safe?
