    Question about my hair loss

    Hey Everyone,

I’m 34 years old and am wondering what I can expect regarding possible treatments.

I shaved my head about 6 months ago, as it was clear there was a bald spot on my crown that became noticeable. I had long hair at the time so it wasn’t as clear as it is now.

I started noticing thinning in my 20s but it was all on the top of my head. I swear I had no noticeable spot on the crown (besides a callus I’ve had since birth) up until MAYBE 2 years ago, and even then it wasn’t very noticeable. I just can’t believe it progressed this aggressively, and that I had to ultimately shave my head to “even” things out.

I’ve been on minoxidil (15%) for about 4 months, and haven’t seen results. I know this is relatively early, and will continue for the next few months.

Do you think it’s possible to regrow hair on my crown without a transplant? I ask because it does seem very thin, but I just can’t believe it happened so quickly. Maybe it’s possible the dormant hairs can still grow with the right treatment? If not, am I a good candidate for a transplant at this point? Please let me know your thoughts - many thanksClick image for larger version

Have you considered derma rolling? It seems that derma rolling with a longish needle (1mm - 1.5mm) does seem to have some success on areas which are almost slick bald, it may be the extra kick your follicles need to start reacting to minoxidil. Have you considered finasteride? Over long periods of time some people have regained a good level of density on almost slick bald crowns. All the best.
