Diffuse hair loss, just started treatment.

    Hello all,

I thought I would document my hair loss & treatment on here as it may be of some interest to anybody who has a similar hair loss pattern & is wondering if any of the well known treatments work and to what degree.

I am 33 & have diffuse hair loss that starts at my hair line (although hair line is still intact) and spreads across the top of my head towards my crown. My crown is not yet too badly affected, however does show signs of miniaturisation.

My hair started thinning (or miniaturising) probably about two years (possibly earlier, however it’s hard to put an exact time scale on things) however, in the last year the miniaturisation has really stepped up a gear (basically the front and mid-scalp consist almost entirely of miniaturised hairs.

My dad was a NW6 by the time he was about 28/29.

Anyway, 1 month ago I started to take finasteride 1mg daily and apply minoxidil 5% morning and night. The photo below is 1 month after starting treatment and is considered below baseline. I have been shedding large numbers of miniaturised hairs since just a few days into using minoxidil, and this continues until now (currently week four)

I plan to post an update and photo at the 3 month mark.

    All the best.

Update after nearly 6 months of treatment

Hello all, I thought I would share a photo of my progress after nearly 6 months of treatment (fin, min, dermarolling). I am very happy with the results & extremely extremely grateful that I have manage to improve my situation so much; going from a very see-through all over diffusing pattern to an (almost) normal looking head of hair.

Best wishes to my fellow hair loss guys & girls, keep up the good fight.

Approaching nearly 9 months on fin+min+dermarolling. Very happy with the results and very grateful I have been a good responder. I would say hair to the sides, front and crown have pretty much returned to prebalding state. I still have a stubborn section at the very top of my head (where the scalp is always tightest) that is still thinner than the rest (although I believe it to be slowly improving). Recently I have started taking saw palmetto, using regenepure shampoo and giving myself a daily scalp massage.

Here's a quick update after 14 months of fin, min and dermarolling.

It's worth noting that about six months ago I began to gradually reduce the amount of regaine I was using, especially as my hair got longer and application became difficult. I still apply it twice a day, however on a much reduced area. I haven't noticed any major difference in density, but I am continuing to monitor it carefully. Also, I now only dermaroll once every 3 or 4 days, rather than every other day

I’m new, I'm starting with diffuse baldness, I immediately saw your post and now I'm very impressed! Congratulations, then I have a hope for recovery!

I'm a bit worse that your first pic, started Min + Dermarolling in January, added fin this month. Hoping to see similar results

Edit: Have you seen any sides while on Fin?

                            21 month update

Here is my latest update at 21 months.

I have grown my hair out longer on top (around six inches on top, short on back and sides).

My daily routine now is alternating daily between 1mg and 0.5mg of Fin. (My aim is to slowly reduce my dosage whilst monitoring density).

Min foam in the morning. Usually just a small amount on the top of my head just before the crown. My hair is too long now to use too much and it's 40 degrees where I live, so… the foam melts before it's even touched my scalp most days.

Min liquid at night without fail. A good dose massaged thoroughly into the affected areas. Super greasy… but it's the price you pay. Anyway, no one sees me… I just crawl into bed like I've just dipped my head into a barrel of melted Vaseline.

Dermarolling with a 0.5mm roller mayve once a week if that.

Zinc, biotin and saw palmetto daily.

No special shampoos, I use nizoral every now and then and recently have come across something called sebamed antihairloss shampoo. I have no idea if it works, however it makes my hair feel great.

                            Lots of exercise, almost daily.

Trying to sleep well and keep stress levels down, however these too I am failing miserably at lately.

After gradually reducing the amount of min used for almost a year now, I have not noticed any major loss in density. However, I have not been taking the reduced amout of fin for longer enough to know whether this has had any negative effect. I will report back in a few months.

No, I've no had any side effects (touch wood) from taking fin.
