To Use Mills or Not to Use Mills?!!! That is the question

    Hi everyone

I want to start by saying that I am delighted to have found this website and the forum, I am delighted with the amount of information here and the videos were good also.

I have been losing my hair for the last decade and I am going to to have the FUE treatment done soon. I am going to Turkey and thanks to this website I believe I have found the right place to go to. But here I just want to reflect on the usage of the word Mills which in this forum has taken on a very negative vibe.

I recently saw a man in his 50's who had an FUE Surgery in Middle East with 2400 grafts in a Mill style clinic. He said that there were 10 beds next to each other and one lady who was not even a doctor oversaw everything. No Association, No reputable Doctors, Not even a state of the art hospital. Just technitians doing the work. He will need two sessions but 6 months after his surgery I have to admit that his results were really good. So the question I ask myself now is are Mills really bad if they give you positive results? Do we even need a doctor to get good results? Besides there are many horror stories here about doctors who have done a dreadful job.

I have been looking at a company called Este Grande in Turkey and while I know they are a Mill style hospital with 8 operations a day, their presentation seems to be excellent and so are the results that we see! Operations carried with some supervisions can produce good results and we should not write them off. In fact some reputable doctors are now offering 2 packages, one where they will do some of the surgery and the other is where they just supervise and let their technicians do the hard work.

I believe that at the end of the day people can devalue the services offered in Turkey (and other countries) but at the end of the day many people get treatments for under 2000 dollars and get good results. Perhaps we should not be too judgemental when it comes to Mill Style FUE Surgeries but then again maybe I am just being Naive

Might be just me but for one of the biggest decisions in my life i would not be going to one of these places. I'm glad you found a place you feel comfortable with and hope you get a great result.

      Hi Mrclean
Actually I am not going to a Mill style place but I thought I express what I was feeling and asking myself really! If the hospital is good and the results are good does it really matter? Also what about the doctors who screw up??? Thanks for your feedback much appreciated

both make poignant points. I can't speak for practices in Turkey, but a high volume facility certainly offers a lot of training for a HT clinic. I've decided to pay a little extra to have my work done in the US. Here uou can still find very affordable clinics $3/graft FUE that have been practicing for years...not sure about the UK. Anyway, hope things work out for the both of us!

Your post speaks to a thread I'm going to create on this forum soon. With results I've seen from these hair mills you get a mix of good results and some very bad butcher jobs. What I'm thinking at this point is that while these technicians are trained by the head doctor (or the other staff) human skill and proficiency comes into play. Some of these technicians will excel at their jobs, become very proficient, and potentially gain better practical skills than many accredited doctors whether through natural ability or straight up practice (or a mix of both). On the other hand you have technicians that will squeak by in training but never really catch on and potentially really screw things up for some patients. Going to these hair mills how do you know who you will get? It's a roll of the dice whether you get the person who has produced many of the great results you see or get the person who creates a horror story. I've yet to hear one technicians name in all of the research I've done so far. The head doctor gets all of the credit when he might not even walk into the operating room while these technicians get no credit on the internet. I for one want to hear who these technicians are that are giving great results, and at the same time hear who the technicians are that give horrible results at these hair mills. This may result in being able to go to one of these places and request a quality technician.

With any cosmetic/surgical procedure, for me it really comes down to setting yourself up to win and having the best possible odds for success. Even the best surgeons in the world can have misses from time to time, as there are a lot of extraneous factors in terms of a person's individual physiology alone. If it were me, there's no way I would risk going to a place like the one you described, but to each their own. Ultimately, you would just need to be okay with the fact that the risks at a place like that are far greater than they would be going to an esteemed surgeon who will give you individualized attention and care and has years of expertise under his belt.

I am a patient advocate for Dr. Parsa Mohebi in Los Angeles, CA. My opinions/comments are my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Dr. Mohebi and his staff.
