Default Bumps where the graft incisions were made

    Hello,

I had a hair transplant surgery 10 months ago and immediately after the surgery I had noticeable bumps. However, the bumps all less noticeable and shrank a bit.

Is it normal to have bumps where the graft incisions were made?
And how long does it take for them to go away?
Also, is there a way to reduce their appearance or smoothen the surface?

    Thanks

    DBKurt

There are a couple of possibilities: the bumps you see are most likely retained hair fragments. These typically fall out on their own following surgery but will occasionally get stuck as new hairs try to grow through. With a clean pair of tweezers, you can remove these non-growing hair fragments (if they are ready to come out, they will slide right out). You can also try scrubbing your scalp with soap and a wash cloth to try and dislodge any non-growing hair fragments. These retained hair fragments are no cause for concern and actually indicate that new hairs are trying to grow.

However, there are also a couple of other possibilities: you might have an infectious form of folliculitis (though this is unlikely since you have seen an improvement). However, if you suspect this could be a possibility, it's a good idea to consult with your hair transplant physician or another doctor. It's also possible that you could have cysts which can be formed if hair follicles are damaged or pushed too deeply into the skin.

At ten months, are they still noticable? In most cases by the time the new hairs start to grow, the recipient sites can no longer be seen. What did the doctor who performed the surgery tell you?

I actually have noticed the same thing. I have two issues today, it seems.

    1) Similar to the original poster, I have always noticed that the recipient areas of my scalp (the front particularly, where it's most noticeable) shows dozens of box-like, tiny areas of elevated skin. They are not red, and my local dermatologist said these are simply normal scars from a hair-transplant, but I'm not sure?
    2) Separately (but maybe related?), I have an irritation problem that has gotten much worse over time, several years after the transplant. I have detailed it here https://www.baldtruthtalk.com/showthread.php?t=18071.

Dr. Glenn Charles actually did my hair transplant procedure. Any advice on what's going on here?
