Default Will My Hair Transplant Ever Begin To Thin?

I’ve noticed that my 72 year old father who has been bald since around the age of 40 is now starting to thin out at the back and sides of his hair. I’m worried about this since I know this is the donor area used for a hair transplan, and I am seriously thinking about [...]

Most people are probably genetically programmed to have some thinning in the donor area with aging. However, it occurs to a degree that is noticeable in a smaller percentage of the population. You have to decide what is more important: hair now or thinning hair later.

    Question

    Dr. Charles,
Have you ever seen someone who has thinned in the back to the point you can see his scar?

It seems reasonable to believe that if your transplanted hair does thin in your older years, it'll be in a diffuse pattern and will still look natural.

I have seen a few cases over the years where a patient had older hair transplants and some of the donor scarring was a liitle visible. However, most of these patients were greater than 70 years old. With the newest suturing techniques and FUE procedure this will most likely occur even less often.
