Thin looking/transparent sides of hair (though not top) what is this?

19M, can anyone explain to me why the sides of my hair look like this - look v thin/transparent through to skin even at a decent length - could it be the way it has been cut (fade) and or the shortness making it look thin, or something else? Has anyone had this?

Also in general, my hairline seems fine to me, you tell me? All the help would be appreciated, thanks alot.
