    2 Years On Finasteride / Loss Of Progress

    Hey everyone,

    So I have been on finasteride 1mg for about two years now and unfortunately I am a little worried.

    When I first started taking finasteride, the first 6-9 months were awesome. My hair had never looked thicker and my hairline was growing back. I was so happy.

    However, as the year progressed I started losing progress, and by the time I hit the 1.5 year mark I felt I had lost significant progress.

    The pictures I am provided go as follow;

    The first two are pre-finasteride. You can see here how receded and thin my hair looks.

    The next two are around the 6-9 month mark. My hair looks thick and my hairline is not nearly as receded.

    The final two are my hairline / hair now. Finasteride has “stopped” working and my hair has done a 360.

    Does anyone have any ideas as to why finasteride worked for the first 6-9 months then stopped?

    At the 1.5 mark, I added dutasteride with no real benefits.

    I never changed my regiment, I use Nizoral 2% every other day in the shower, and 1mg of finasteride every day.

    Are there cases where finasteride loses potency? Are my genetics finally catching up? Is this just a long shed?

    1. You are on two drugs that basically do the same thing, one is more powerful than the other.

    2. Some drugs do NOT increase effectiveness despite the extra dosage. You are only doing potential hormonal damage to yourself.

    3. You are taking a drug that was designed to treat prostate problems, with a side-effect of hair growth. Understand that MPB is genetics, hormones, and environment. Dealing with one, will not always override the effects of the other two.

        Keep taking Dutasteride daily... it will slowdown your balding at least... you will realise this after stopping the medication.

          You could talk to the prescribing doctor, or get a second opinion. The opinions of folks on the internet are at best, based on individual, personal experience, which may or may not have a bearing on your situation. At worst, it is just a bunch of BS.

          Whenever you have a question about meds you are taking, it is always best to talk to a professional.
