What can I expect after 8 mos?
Hi folks,
I'm just over the 8 month mark with my first HT. I understand that I'll achieve full maturation at the 12 month mark. I'm quite pleased with my results thus far, but how much more growth can I expect in the next four months? Will it be noticeable growth and/or density and/or thickness?
Thanks in advance for any input and comments.

A general rule of thumb is that you should see about 20-30% growth at 3 months, about 60% growth at 6 months and about 80% growth at 8 months. These percentages can certainly vary depending on personal healing/growth characteristics but you should definitely see some continued improvement throughout the next 4+ months.

Harry,
At 8 months post-op, most of the regrowth has occured although there are some variances between patients. You may still get a few new sprouts. Growth in length of the new hair shafts will continue but it is hair cylinder maturation that can and will occur even up until 24 months post-op. Again, patients vary. Specifically, I am referring to increases or gains in hair shaft diameter. Hair caliber is the single most critical factor in gaining the illusion of coverage so as our hair shafts gain thickness post-op, so does the resulting coverage.
And that's why I am a big advocate of patients waiting a full 12-18 months post-op in order to fairly evaluate the full effects of coverage. Those of us with wider color contrasts can and will appreciate hair caliber maturation because our scalps are more subject to reflecting light and when each hair shaft gains more thickness, less scalp is noticed and it appears that we have better coverage because we have indeed achieved such. Sorry for the long sentences!
So hang in there Harry, there's more to come even when it does not involve new sprouts!

As Gill has mentioned, hang on in there. There is still a way to go yet. I agree a full 18 months is required before evaluating the outcome of a HT.

Thanks, Guys. I'm hoping for (and now expecting) more thickness or diameter of my new hairs.
