    Finasteride before and after pics

Hello, newbie here. I'm transgender M-F and have been taking 5mg of Finasteride once a day for about three months.

I took some pics when I started (with a week's growth - I usually shave my head) and some more a couple of weeks ago (another week's growth). The pic on the left is the earlier one.

I'm not sure if there's any difference. Would some of you mind taking a look and letting me know your thoughts please? Am I being too impatient? I'm not sure when the Finasteride is supposed to "kick in"!

    All the best,

    Andie

PS I've not started testerone blockers and estrogen yet. I'm due to start estrogen in February and blockers sometime after that.

Thanks for the reply. I've heard of Minoxidil but not the others. Are these available on prescription? I'm in the UK.

I think I might see some very slight re-growth, but it's hard to say for sure. There is still some chance of seeing further improvement over the coming months. Adding Minoxidil is probably your best bet.

how often should the derma roller be used? should I apply minoxidil first and then derma roller or vice versa?

It's really hard to tell based on the photos alone, as the lighting is quite different in each one. While some people do see some regrowth with Fin alone, I wouldn't expect the results to be too significant tbh. It's better at slowing down hair loss and helping you maintain what you have than necessarily "regrowing" it, so look into the other options here as suggested.

Thanks so much for all the replies, folks. I shall definitley look at getting a roller some Minoxidil. To save me looking, is there a decent thread on here that will tell me how to get started, what kind to take, quantities, etc? Thanks!

PS Just looked online and I can see dozens of different rollers with different needle lengths - and Minoxidil in different strengths. I have no idea which to get. Sorry to be such a newbie but what's best?

One more thing (and then I'll shut up, I promise!) is it best to start growing my hair now - or keep it cropped until the Mixo really does it thing? I'm thinking maybe it would work better if it could get straight to the scalp without hair in the way. Thanks!

Congrats on the start of your journey! Takes a lot of courage and you should be very proud.

I would say start with minoxidil 5% for now. As for needle size I'm not too sure, but there are plenty of threads that should it explain it better than me.

I would imagine once you block testosterone and start with female hormones you may well see a big improvement then.

ALSO! how old are you and how long have you been balding?

Thanks for the prompt reply, and for your lovely best wishes! I'm 44 and should be starting on estrogen, providing my blood test results are OK, by about the end of February. I've been balding for the past 15 years or so I guess.

OK, I shall go for the 5% mix and see how I go with that. Is that the strongest one? Also, I noticed there's female version of Regaine called Regaine for Women. What is the difference between that and the male version - and would I better to go on to that once I start HRT?

If anyone could recommend the best derma roller out there, that would be fab! xxx

Actually you will always have testosterone in your system. Good luck on your journey. I used to scrub on gender re assignment cases and saw some great results. Estrogen could help with hair loss, let us know. I'd stay away from homeopathic products period as there is more BS out there than anything.
