Default AM I BALDING OR IS MY HAIRLINE JUST MATURING...?!!?! Helpppp

Hey guys I need help I'm 17 and I've noticed that my hairline has moved back a bit. I buzzed my head a week ago and I've noticed that on top of that my hair is thinning around the temples and corners of my hairline...can someone tell if it's just a maturization phase (maturing hairline) or whether I'm actually balding...thnx

There is no such thing as maturization phase. You are receding. What people call a mature hairline is just a mild recession. It remains stable on a lot of people while others will lose everything in their 20s. What is your family history hair wise?

Thanks for replying. My fathers side vary... out of six uncles one was fairly bald by 23ish but the rest kept there hair into they're thirties for the most part with mild balding. My dad was a nw 4-5 by 33.

On my moms side they all kept there hair into they're thirties with very very mild recession. But by they're late 30s mid 40s a few of my uncles developed nw6 will others still have they're hair today....

I don't know what to make of the info tho...

Genetics and hormones are just one indicator. Everyone is different, I started to lose my hair at 16, it took a VERY long time for me to go to NW6 (40s). It started with my hairline, and the crown in my mid 30s.

Yes that is what a mature hairline is.. mild, stable recession with the possibility of balding in the future. When people use the term 'mature hairline' they aren't meaning that it's going to sit there for the rest of their life. It's simply a term used to describe a steady, stable change in one's hairline that could last as little as 5 years or if you're lucky.. it can last decades.

A prime example is Matthew Lewis, commonly known as Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter. In the first picture from 2008 he was 19/20.. he showed deep recession and at first glance you'd had called him balding straight off yet almost 10 years on and his hairline hasn't moved an inch. I could name many more examples!

This is the thing I've come to understand.. there is no way of telling how fast or how slowly you're going to lose your hair. It's the biggest gamble known to man! You've got to unfortunately sit there and hope for the best as your genetics and hormones have already determined it for you. It's simply a waiting game from there on. My best advice to you Ryan is to simply wait. Monitor your hairline over the next year or so and if it continuous to move backwards/thin for a prolonged period of time then you know you're balding. If this does happen then use finasteride and it will stop the process from progressing as quickly or even halt it all together. In today's society you want to maintain your hair for as long as possible because no one knows what could happen in the future in terms of treatments and procedures. Think about it this way.. there's been no better day to be balding than today and tomorrow (the unknown).
