Default Young and scared. Whats going on?

Hello, my name is Josh. I am 22 (about to be 23) and I'm having some serious issues with my hair.

I always prided myself for my long hair and I kept it dyed black and "edgy." It has always been thin but Ive been told I have a lot of hair.

For the past 7 months, my hair has been falling out like crazy. In the beginning, I noticed a stinging feeling on my hairline and noticed this phantom feeling of where my hair used to be. In a panick, I bought Nioxin along with hair growth vitamins with 5000 mmg of biotin. The pain and stinging temporarily subsided and it felt good for a couple months and I thought it was going to be okay.

Then I decided to take a trip to LA for a convention and dyed my hair black once again and missed 5 days of my routine and boom... the stinging came back and I also realized my hair had continued to fall out. During the dying process I noticed the sides begin to draw back along my scalp. I immediately began using my routine again. 2 months have past since then and my scalp feels bruised accompanied by small patches of needle like stinging. Hair all over my head has fallen out and it looks so brittle and thin and gross. The sides are receding farther and farther and I seriously don't know what to do.

Some background: I'm 116 Ib, 5 foot 9 inches. Very thin. I have a lot of trouble with my weight. Ive had large intestine issues along with some other intestinal issues that a failed colonoscopy was unable to decipher. I dont have a lot of those issues anymore though. Ive been through years of cronic depression but have never had my hair fall out like this. Sometimes I have terrible anxiety that is brought on by self asteem issues. Baldness does not run in my fathers side of the family and only minor cases on my mothers side.

Please, if anyone has any advise, id appreciate every word. I don't know if I should use rogaine products like minoxidil (is that what its called?) Or anything like that because if I can fix it naturally, Id like to do that instead of relying on a solution I cant stop. Or if I should start something like that now while the problem is still young. Ive seen a doctor for this problem and she sent pictures to a specialist in L.A and gave me a basic answer and told me to use that Rogaine stuff. And idk what to trust from someone who doesnt know my story or didnt evaluate me themselves. Plus, our doctors here are very.... terrible.

Sorry for any type-os, its 3 AM and I have work in 6 hours...

Thank you so much for your time and I'm sorry I just wrote a short story for you to read. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Hi Josh, you could go and see a specialist if you're not happy with your current doctor. If she is a general practitioner, she might not know much about your issue (maybe ask to talk to the specialist in LA?).

The 'stinging' sensation you describe, and sensitivity, and so forth, that could be a medical issue, or it could be similar to what a lot of guys on here experience - that when we obsess about our hair, we start noticing things we wouldn't otherwise. It's human nature. If I tell you to not think of a pink elephant, what did you just think of? I too have issues with scalp and sensitivity, itchy rash etc, I don't know if there's any connection with baldness, but a lot of guys seem to experience it (but, a lot of guys go bald, so).

If it's MPB, you should get on propecia, unless you have a good reason not to. I know you want to keep things natural, but, it's just a drug made from nature stuff (right?). Rogaine might help with the feeling of thin-ness, that's what it's meant to be for.

Good luck buddy, cruise around the forum if you get time, try not to stress too much. All the best.

Well you seem to have some temporal recession but good density on top and frontally. I know you said you would like to try to deal with it naturally but truth be known there isn't any natural stuff that consistently delivers any significant results. And you have to remember that time is of the essence since nothing out there really regrows much of your hair lost to baldness. I would go on the basics immediately- those being minoxidil every night, finasteride 1 mg/day or 1/5th of a proscar daily except Sat & Sun if money is an issue, and nizoral shampoo 3x per week. Anything else and you are probably going to lose ground that you can never regain. I did minoxidil nightly and proscar daily for almost 20 years with really pretty good results and no significant sides and it got me through my 40's, and 50's in good hirsute condition for the most part..

What if it isn't MPB though? What if its a different cause?

Well you could initiate the protocol and if your hairloss stops it would confirm that its MPB. If it has no effect then you could start looking for a more specific diagnosis but the odds are its MPB...
