Cowlick thinning?

I'm not sure whether I'm beginning to thin on top. I've had a strange cowlick all my life.. my friends have joked a couple of times in the past when I was younger saying it's a bald patch but I obviously never took them seriously.

I've recently noticed that the hair around my cowlick looks a bit thinner, sparse. Is this normal for a cowlick or am I thinning? Sometimes when I take a photo with flash on I have what seems to be a prominent part running through my hair by the cowlick. It's not always detectable and only visible when I use flash but it concerns me as I never noticed this prior to obsessing over my hair.
