can someone please tell me if this is normal?

I know I have MPB but the back of my head is thinning in lines and I am kindof alarmed by it. I have been taking finasteride for about 6 months and although I cannot tell if it has helped because I have not documented my progress with pictures, I am going to continue to take the medication. Here is the back of my hair.

Can someone please at least give me their opinion lol. I cannot find any information online pertaining to the type of thinning that I am noticing on the back of my head (in linear patterns).

That pattern is a little strange and not sure why it is happening like that. I would be on rogaine for sure since the area you are losing rogaine is very effective. I use the equate brand from Walmart in liquid form which seems to be very good quality and cheap.

Contact this Dr. and send photos and see what they think. This guy is one on the best HT surgeons in the world.

Thank you for your reply. I am hoping that the finasteride will at the minimum stop the thinning. I know I have mpb but the thinned lines concern me. I am only about 5 months into finasteride and want to wait to start using rogain. Unfortunately I have not been documenting my hair with pictures since starting finasteride but I am going to start. i have read contradictory information about a shedding phase associated with finasteride and was hoping someone could elaborate on whether or not they experienced this initial thinning/shedding? Like I said, I am only about 5 months into treatment and will continue to take it unless I developed extreme side effects. I want to let my mind rest concerning my hair but the continued thinning and now these lines have caused me to start being concerned. Thanks again for the reply.

I have been on finasteride and did not get a shed but everyone is different. I would send those pictures to that HT surgeon and they can evaluate those lines. I am not suggesting a HT and in fact advise against it at this point but they see so many cases that I'm sure they have an idea of what those lines are.

No I do not use steroids and I am extremely healthy. I do take other medications though which I believe may be causing this.

What medications do you think might do this?

The one medication I believe may be effecting my hair is Trazadone. I have discontinued using it. I have now encountered a new even more concerning problem and was hoping for some insight. I have been taking finasteride for maybe half a year and a couple of days ago I realized my erection was and continues to not be at 100%. This is concerning because of all the horror stories. I have decreased my dose from 1mg to .5. Will this still be as effective and should I be concerned about "permanent" side effects? I strongly do not want to discontinue taking it and if these side effects are indeed permanent, why stop taking it now. This may not sound rational, but that is how I feel. Thank you all for your replies and hopefully someone can help with my new mpb issues.

You can't totally blame the fin for this problem but on the other hand it could be part of it..Really hard to say...(NPI) I would probably do what i did and stay on the 1mg fin but just get some Cialis-works like none other. That way you can maybe have hair and erections both...start with an 8th of a pill and titrate upwards from there.

I always wonder why more guys don't use Cialis when they develop weak erections from fins. I haven't tried it yet because the prescription I got was $230 for 6 pills, maybe that's why. As far as the OP guy goes with the streaks in his hair, I would be concerned too. No one seems to have any ideas as to why, but could it be the hair cutter messed up? IDK

Markusbc, did you also notice your erections were weaker than usual and continued using fin? If so did they continuously get weaker or did the weakness remain the same if that makes sense?

                            Thanks
