18 and unsure if this is my normal hairline or signs of balding.

I've looked at pictures that were taken years ago and my hairline was a little lower but still somewhat high. Please let me know. My dad went bald in his 20s and my mother's dad showed signs of balding in his 30s/40s. I'm not too worried about a receding hairline in my 30s onward. But I would like to live my 20s with a full head of hair.

Great photos that you have shown here 'RhyGuy'!!!
WELCOME to this great forum, BTT!!
Its very possibly that you only have a minor maturing hairline.
    Your hair looks GOOD bro!
Never allow yourself to become worried or depressed about your hair or anything else in life.
(not saying that you would )
That could and would cause serious issues to your hairline and eventually to your health!
Check of that over-the-counter medicine, Biotin!
It is a vitamin of the B complex and has a long history of improving hair for men and women.
Helps ones health too to a degree too!!
Check it out my friend!! Cheers to you!!

Unfortunately you are in the early stages of MPB. Your hairline is thinning and receding, and if left untreated, you will probably be significantly bald within 5 yeats.

The good news is you have a chance to stop this process. There's one course of action for us young balders and it is to take finasteride.

      Goodluck.

Yes you seem to be exhibiting some significant recession as well as notable change in hair texture/composition for an 18 year old. I would consider at least doing a minoxidil RU58841 mixture and consider using finasteride although it can have some very significant sexual side effects in some guys while others are left unscathed....

The picture I submitted of current day was a shot of my hairline, I noticed my hair looked very thin in that picture but it is actually very thick and hefty... Also I failed to mention an important note, my father did a lot of drugs in his 20s which may account for the rapid hair loss I hear. But still, my hairline has noticeably gone up in the past 3-4 years. I've been told it's just my hairline maturing, I just don't want it to recede any further.

Better shots of my hair (as of writing this I've shaven my hair off)

This is a good response from you RhyGuy!
Again, your hair looks relatively OK !!
Reread what I said about Biotin.
You can possibly improve your scalp.
            Have a great day !!!

I'm very opposed to the idea of Propecia/Finasteride due to the supposed side effects of erectile dysfunction. Do you have any experience with it?

                    Hello again RhyGuy!

Based on the photos of your hair, it does NOT look like you would need to use
Propecia/Finasteride at this point in time.

To let you know, I have been on Finasteride for about 5 years.
I have never had bad side-effects from its use.
My scalp has been improved to a minor percentage based on its use.
My hairloss had been stopped due to Finasteride since its usage.
Again, you might not need to use it at this time based on how your hairline is looking.
Because you are only 18 years old, you might ONLY have a maturing hairline.
Of course, later on you might start experiencing hairloss but nobody can really now at this point in time.
My Father had serious hairloss.....my oldest bother (62 years old) has also had serious hairloss too just like me BUT our other brother (second oldest) never had any hairloss to this day (he is now 60 years old)!
Check out Biotin and then let me know what you found out about it bro!
(but the way, nizoral 2% shampoo, is a decent thing to use too)

                        I apologize John'!
But the facts are that everybody can look it up.
Of course you should do it to John'!!
That's why I've always suggested that to some people that I had mentioned Biotin to,
would need to review it's facts first before possibly buying it !
John check it out.... i'm at the store right now! I'll be back home in about 20 minutes!
                        Cheers!

I did read up about it. However there are varying recommendations for dosages. What dosage do your recommend?

I think it would really depend on how somebody's
                            Hairline is doing.
