I'm 16, and need advice on my hair.
Hi, i'm connor and i'm 16 years old about to turn 17 in may.
I do broadcasting and i'm pretty popular as a social media influencer which is why i'm so concerned about my hair loss right now.
I've noticed it about 8 months ago and it's gotten worse since then, it's deals with the front of my head, on the sides going up? it's not awful yet but it's really affecting everything i do and makes me so sad.
I wanted to ask you all what i can do as money isn't rly gonna be intrusive or an issue i can get whatever necessary to help. i would like to know about solutions for now and not later.
thanks :^) i've been so sad about this and honestly want to cry

What is your YouTube and social media tags? Put pictures up of the hairloss. Current solutions are a good minoxidil like Lipogaine sensitive on the receding parts and and nizoral 2% shampoo. When you're at least 18 but preferably later you can get on finasteride, which is the best treatment. It isn't legal for people under 18, but is the only thing that will halt the loss properly over the long term. People will shout me down for saying this, but you should start looking at hair transplant doctors so when you're 20 or so you can have saved money for one and have a good understanding of the procedure and who some good doctors are.
You should probably go to a doctor and have them do blood tests and test for vitamin deficiencies and thyroid issues too. Because you say it's at the front, it is probably just standard male pattern baldness starting early, like mine. My biggest regrets are not getting a transplant earlier and not starting finasteride when I was 19 or 20. I'm getting one in two weeks at 22.

There have been transplants on 16 year old norwood 3s before. It's better to get a transplant with a good doctor than end up a hermit or killing yourself because of hairloss as a 20 year old norwood 5. You're parroting complete garbage and shit without any REASONING for it. "Too young"? He's too young to go bald, he should look into doctors and get on the treatments available, and down the track go for the transplant method, preferably FUT to fill in the frontal and midscalp area. Can always use a custom crown hairpiece in the back in conjunction with prior hair transplants at the front too.
He's better off fixing the problem than listening to filth from bald men like yourself who haven't had sex with an attractive woman in decades. He'll be happier with transplants than being a baldy at 20. Get real.

Losing hair in the front is MPB 100% of the time. It's not stress. It's not thyroid. It's not impurities in the water. It's not diet. It's not [insert random idea].
This is a big reason why so many people who are in the NW 1.5-2.5 scale, end up losing years, and dropping hopelessly into the NW3+ scale; because they're busy chasing imaginary potential hair loss problems that "might be"(when it never is).
Connor, you are losing your hair because you have male pattern baldness. Grab some Nizoral shampoo for now. Read up on Finesteride and Minoxodil. Also consider RU58841. Those are your entire arsenal. Do not bother with "natural" cures like Saw Pal, and Biotin. They don't do crap. You'll just waste time and continue losing hair.

Oh don't get me wrong, like I said right after that sentence it's almost definitely balding, but he should definitely check with a doctor on those issues just in case. I also agree with your point on biotin and saw palmetto, although studies suggest saw palmetto is about 30% as effective as 1mg of propecia, and works with a similar mechanism of 2A5R reduction , so I wouldn't discount it entirely. I wouldn't recommend it to an under 18 either though, and when you're 19 or 20 propecia is a better and more studied option, and works for 80% of people rather than 5-10% with mild balding issues in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

I wasted close to a year on "natural" garbage(including Saw). Went from an NW 1.3 to NW 2.4. I don't suggest it. My hair loss got worse on the natural stuff. I don't actually think they made it worse, but I think it literally did zero to prevent it.
I just suggest skipping tests, because I had all sort of crazy alternatives in my head at the time. "Could it be stress? Could it be that I need a shower head with a water filter?", etc)
If I had known there was a 99.9% chance that my hair loss was MPB and the only way to treat is was Fin/Minox/RU/Nizoral, I would have acted very differently. But everyone kept telling me "It might not be MPB! It could be SO many things!". Not really.

That is true, in retrospect I should have got on fin at 20 and got a transplant when I did. Went up a norwood because of the waiting game on fear of fin sides. First time I've felt comfortable with my situation in three years because I've finally got an FUE with Koray Erdogan coming up on the 6th of April and have been on fin happily for 4 months.

Your solution to everyone is get a HT
Get a HT at 20 and see what happens 5 , 10, 15 years later . He'll be need to get a HT for the rest of his life to fill in what he continuouslyu loses.
Do some research on all the guys who had mild loss, got a HT and the regretted it

While it's true the vast majority of males who lose their hair do so because of male pattern baldness, having significant hair loss by 16/17 is pretty unusual so in this case I think ruling out other causes is warranted. Similarly, it could just be his natural hairline maturing- many people get higher temples by their late teens/early 20s and then don't actually start 'balding' until later down the road.
All that being said, we're just a bunch of strangers on the internet who haven't actually seen the degree of your hair loss, don't know your family history, etc etc so really I think the best option here is to see a specialist for their professional opinion
