5 years on propecia.. am I screwed? (SIDE EFFECTS)

Hey y'all, I've been at a crossroads with my hair loss for a while now since a teenager. I'd love your guys opinion.

    I'm 22 years old
Dealt with hair loss since I was about 17
Been on Finasteride and Rogaine since 17

For the most part finasteride and rogaine have been very good to me, I've never had super thick hair and it's never been super thin either. Since I was diagnosed with male pattern baldness it's been in the middle with the help of these products. I would say it's been great for my confidence to have hair, than be bald so it helped me alot. I turned 22 oct 2nd of this year and with my girlfriend I noticed my dick wasn't getting as hard as it usually did. Then as the days went on, I noticed I couldn't get it up to p*rn or even masterbating, and when I did it was always like barely hard but could bring me to orgasm but it was just barely hard...

There were even days I tried to get it up and it wasn't going at all, which scared me very much. I've never had side effects other then zero morning wood for years and watery semen, but I always looked past that for hair. I just feel like my dick is dead down there.. I never get randomly horny anymore.. my dick never gets randomly hard.. I just feel like I'm losing function down there.. and I'm not saying I can't have sex but when I have I was never hard for long and it wasn't that great..

My question is clearly I'm guessing the lack of DHT is lowering my testosterone so much that I'm now dealing with side effects, sexually.. which scares me to death. I was off Propecia since then for a couple of weeks and it was easier to get harder, no days where it hadnt work since I stopped. My semen was watery but had more white in it then ever which I enjoyed. My energy went up, I just felt overall better.

I feel like finasteride has also made my dick smaller. If just doesn't look as big as it used to, maybe lack of blood flow.. not sure. It's not even close to 100% pre finasteride state but it was way better then recent times. But with improved penis function I've also noticed hairs in the front of my hairline shrinking.. and it's clearly from my male pattern baldness.. the hairs seem to be retuning to a receding state.. so now I'm stuck with.. do I keep using this drug and try to save the hair I still have with the risk of permanent sexual problems? Or quit and just live with what rogaine and regenpure shampoo can keep me?

I worry these won't be enough to stop my male pattern baldness.. but I also can't live my life with sexual side effects. Id rather be healthy sexually then anything else.. what should I do? I wish this wasn't happening to me.. I just want to live a normal young mans life.. it's been very depressing watching my hair shrink but also I don't want to risk my sexual life.. help? I'm terrified at 22 I ruined my life from this drug.. please help me

I was on Propecia for 5 years all it did was made my Di** limp :'(
I went cold turkey in 2012 (propecia and rogain).
It really does kill your sex drive and I've never recovered.
I started shedding a bit more after I stopped then in 2013 I discovered stemoxydine and like everything else I HAD TO TRY IT. and believe me I've used snake oil too!
it works for me and I still use it, I had no gains but comparing pictures from 2013 to now there are no losses neither
Stemoxydine literally works for me. No gains,

At your age, you shouldn't need viagra or anything to help get hard.

You need to listen to what your body is telling you. Don't ignore it. Many
men have, and there's really no point in having hair if you can't get
it on. It might be permanent.

I would seriously consider tapering the dose, or possibly stopping altogether.

Now, it is strange that it's happening five years later. That is
          weird.

You really need to go to a SPECIALIST (ENDROCRONOLOGIST). They study hormones
and the effects on the body, as well as diabetes.

It could be a number of different things. Blood pressure (lack of blood flow) to the
          penis.

Get it CHECKED OUT. Health is IMPORTANT. And please do yourself a favor,
          DON'T WAIT!

I have no idea what it could be.. but it's been very sudden lately. Especially near the end of this year, I also haven't been checked for stuff yet I'm gonna attempt to get my blood work done and see, I don't even know where to find a endocrinologist .. so I'm not sure what to do. I haven't taken propecia in about a week so.. my hair is slowly going but I just can't allow myself to take this pill.. there's to many people who claimed it ruined them for life I just don't know how to win.. I've been taking it for years with just watery semen and no morning erections.. but now it seems to be getting worse. I'm 22 now as of October.. I just don't know. This will ruin my confidence forever with no hair it's terrifying but it's also terrifying to not have a working wang either. I had burning piss for about a month.. took meds for it. Probably a UTI, it gave me random pulses in my dick I still even get now sometimes like a pulse in my head, it feels weird . The burning piss is gone now tho, it was almost impossible to piss it hurt so bad then. Thankfully it went away, I hope that didn't make this worse whatever that was.. what should I do man? I'm so scared but I just want to keep my hair 😭😭

Um... it's, Finasteride, in a liposomal topical solution that you apply directly to the scalp. It's the same exact drug, just different delivery.

Studies actually indicate it reduces scalp DHT more than oral version, dose vs dose.

                  What Is Topical Finasteride?
Over the past few years the drug Finasteride has – in the public domain at least – acquired a reputation for having a high incidence of sexual side effects. This combined with the emergence of “Post Finasteride Syndrome” has resulted in a marked hesitation on the part of many patients to even try this treatment as part of a regimen for treatment of male pattern hair loss (MPH).

5 years ago approximately 50-60% of patients coming to our office were already taking finasteride. Over our last 500 virtual consultations only 18% of patients reported using Finasteride.

While their is little question of how effective Finasteride is in treating male pattern hair loss , it has become clear that fewer patients are willing to take the risk of declining sexual functioning.

An obvious question has been whether the drug can simply applied topically to the scalp to avoid side effect issues?

Finasteride is a lipophylic drug and can be readily absorbed through the scalp when compounded with regular solvents and/or penetration enhancers.

The problem here is not its effectiveness , but the fact that there is nothing to stop the drug from moving from the scalp into the circulation and going “systemic”. While the incidence of side effects is lower than with the oral route of administration , there is no question that they may still occur.

Novel, high tech methods of transcutaneous drug delivery have been examined to see if we can simply “lock” the drug into the scalp and avoid systemic absorption.

For the past few years I have been researching this option. I have joined with a pharmacological company (specializing in transcutaneous drug delivery systems) and the University of Milan, Italy in trying to produce such a topical preparation.

Our current preparation ,which we have been supplying to a group of test patients in Italy is soon to be available worldwide. The effectiveness appears to be equal to oral Finasteride but serum levels are 1/18th that of the oral route. We have had no reports of any sexual side effects in any of the test group (+/- 100 patients). Many of these patients have been on the oral form and had to quit on account of side effects.

This preparation is not FDA approved. It has not been through the FDA approval process which takes years and costs hundreds of millions. You have to have your own physician fill out a prescription for the preparation (see below) and the gel will be individually prepared for you.

While this preparation may not be perfect it should enable patients to halt the progression of MPH effectively, with very little chance of any unwanted side effects. This will be the cornerstone of treatment for MPH.
For those individuals who have been looking for a safer way to take finasteride, a topical form is now available.

This is the prescription that you should present to your physician to be filled out . A prescription should last for 3 months and includes refills to cover you for a year .

Buddy get off fin. Messing with serum Dht and getting a limp dick as a result is not worth it. Trust me you won't be able to keep your girlfriend for long if this continues.

You can try liposomal fin (topical) but in my opinion I'd stay away from it and recover now. A few users have even reported sides from the new H&W liposomal.

Here are some alternative you can try -

CB-01-03 (no sexual sides for me)
                      Alfatradiol
OC (many users have reported it halted their shedding completely)

Give these a go. Stay away from sugar, and when you get your libido back refrain from too much sex/masturbation, as there definitely is a slight Dht increase.

Bro , Please quit ASAP and do not go cold Turkey . Try to tapper off slowly , 2 weeks after that do a 24 hours water fast , go on a healthy diet and regular exercise . Expect things to get back to normal after a month . That drug is poison for the men who are sensitive to it and symptoms could worsen after quitting so please be super uber careful . Remember nothing is worth your health . Best of luck to you .

I've been eating right and all that.. I don't know what to do.. I can see my hairs thinning out but I can't allow myself to ruin my sexual future.. what do u think I should do? It's so hard for me to just taper and force this pill back in me.. but I also am devastated with what's happening

If you quit it already then it s OK , your DHT levels should be back to normal within 14 days . Drink lots of water to get that stuff out of your body and get good rest . AND DON'T EVER TAKE PROPECIA AGAIN NO MATTER IF YOU GO NW7 . I was back to normal after 10 days of quitting the drug and I consider myself extremely lucky . YOU ARE FINE BRO . ALSO STAY AWAY FROM TOPICAL FINASTERIDE AS WELL IT WILL BE SYSTEMATICALLY ABSORBED .

Join the club. I took that stuff and was getting those sides and I never recovered. I had a doctor tell me 5mg a day. Then i found out that , that was way to much I went cold turkey and like I said. Never recovered. I was and still am a lot older than you are so you may be okay with time. Too late for me though.
