I really don't want my hair to end up worse taking finasteride. I heard that flax seeds reduce serum testosterone, could eating that plus taking a smallish dose lower the chance of the upregulation from happening?

There is slight evidence that topical does not give the same side effects. This government study used 2.5 milligrams worth of topical.
