24 year old male - what in the WORLD is going on with my hair?
Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my hair, and what I should do to treat it, if anything.
I have extremely curly, coarse, thick, wiry hair, when it gets a bit longer, it becomes easier to manage, but the it's very rough and tough when it's short.
So, I got a haircut last week and someone commented that the back of my head was thinning. I took some pictures, and it does look that way..but it's very strange and spotty.
My hairline in the front is fine, no receding. Same shape it has always been.
Also, the sides of my head appear to be thin aswell, but the top is SUPER healthy and seems fine.
The back of my head has ALWAYS been weird. I get it from my mom (ie, not your typical circle near the crown, it's always been this weird line with kind of a cowlick in the back)
What's your opinion on this everyone? Is this MPB? Why is it weird on the sides and back? What should I do?
I started taking biotin this week, to see if anything happens.

Hate to say it, but Biotin may or may not work. The vertex area/back does seem thin.
That is not typical androgen alopecia. But that could signal lots of things, which you probably
want a doctor to look at. For example, thyroid, or other health issues. The back does look
thin. Androgen alopecia, which might be on your vertex (beginning stages), usually is on the
hairline or vertex area.
Would get that checked out. Good luck my friend.
Blond hair (born blond) is usually dense (high follicle count), but thin.
Flat hair is wiry/wavy. Straight hair is actually round (cylinder shaped).

It looks to be thinning out but not balding. I could be wrong. Have you been under stress or eating a bad diet?

First you have great hair congrats on that. I agree with the comments mentioned above this just doesn't look like male pattern baldness at all. It doesn't look alopecia areata which would leave patches....I am kinda perplexed...I think you should see a doctor preferabally a dermatologist and have them to a skin swap to see I you have a fungal growth of some sort. I would even thibk about anything that might be getting on the back of your head near thinning. It's just very unusual place to thin....idk good luck and great hair line bro I wish I had that!!! Lol

Hi, may you post a clearer photo of the actual crown? You may have a double whorl, patch of unevenly cut hair, or maybe miniaturization (thinning) in the crown.

You shouldn't start freaking, it could be a lousy cut accentuating the effect. Get a different cut next time or person to do it, then reassess

I don't have the problem at the sides but I'm only 19 and my crown is starting to look weird, hence the reason I'm here keep us posted love to know the outcome

Yeah, I guess, it just looks weird to me personally..like "patchy" almost. In the mornings when its unkempt, you can see my scalp EVERYWHERE except for the top obviously. Not sure if it's the wiry nature of my hair or not.
My dad is 57 and still has a full head of hair, and my brother is 20.
Idk, I just want to find out why. I eat very well, and just actually lost 20 pounds. I was taking a non-stim fat burner for quite a while, and I do take a lot of stimulants daily..so that could be a flag.
@IRN, I hope we both can learn from this man! One of the reasons why I'm posting here is to help others with similar issues
