Default Rapid hair loss in past two days, pretty worried.

21 year old male. I'll start by saying i've been very stressed in the past two weeks. I'm currently having personal stress, school stress, financial stress, and now health stress. Two night ago I get out of the shower and I take a look at my head and notice that I can see my scalp, this is new to me, I run my fingers through my hair and literally am able to pull out a clump of hair. I freak out, my hair is falling out like butter. It's been getting worse by the hour, if I go to the sink and shake my head, the sink fills with hair. I'm not sure if this is early baldness or something else? I'll be going to the doctors tomorrow for a full blood panel, but without health insurance i'm very worried about the cost (gg America). If this is hair loss due to stress and not eating healthy (legion)? Will it get better / grow back? I've read so much about hair loss due to stress and bad eating habits but couldn't find much info on if it'll grow back. Will post pictures tomorrow after shower.

    Hey,

Try not panic - I would try chill out and stop trying to assess situ as only making it worse.
Running fingers through hair /shaking head will make hair come out period over 100 hairs a day naturally cycle.

Get a good nights sleep and try not worry too much.

Thank you! Heres some wet photos I took this morning, I've been doing more research I honestly think its something called Telogen Effluvium http://imgur.com/a/xPfN4 That much hair loss can't be going bald if that all happened in 1-2 days can it?

The scalp is often more visible when the hair is wet, and that doesn't necessarily mean that you're losing your hair. It's also completely natural to lose over 100 hairs a day, as Spex pointed out. The fact that you're admittedly stressed over the past several weeks, combined with the fact that once we start suspecting that there's a problem (in this case, that you're losing your hair) our minds will seek out any information that will confirm that suspicion. Therefore, otherwise normal events (such as the way your hair looks when wet or the amount of hairs you see falling from your head) carry more weight than they would otherwise and you immediately imagine the worst.

I think the most notable thing here is the stress you mentioned, as stress can cause your hair to fall out temporarily. I would focus primarily on handling your stress levels better and the other pressing issues you have going on and try not to worry about your hair right now. Manage your stress and get that under control, focus on one thing at a time (school, finances, etc.) and then reassess your hair issue with a clear head once the other stuff has subsided. There's a very good chance that there's no reason to be alarmed right now, so try not to obsess about it in the meantime.

If it's falling out fast and in clumps that doesn't sound like classic pattern baldness to me. That sounds like you're stressing too much or there's some other issue.
