Default New here, also have a question for Doctors

I'm 22 and I just recently had gynecomastia surgery, I'm also considering getting a hair transplant now since I can't stand being bald. If I do end up getting a HT, would I have to take Propecia? My doctor said it might bring back gynecomastia, so I need to know for sure if it's proven it'll bring it back. I just paid $7,000 for that surgery, so this is a big deal. Also, is this the right section if I wanna post some pictures just to get an idea of how much surgery would cost?

    Thanks!

Propecia can cause Gyno in some men, but it is very rare. You’ll probably feel a swelling or tenderness way before it becomes a permanent issue, so if this happens you can always stop taking it. This is the right section to post your pictures.

If you had gyno before taking finasteride, it could be that your hormones are such that you would be at higher risk of developing gyno when taking the drug. I'm not a doctor so I can't say that for sure, and I don't know what caused your gyno to begin with, but it does stand to reason.

It might be worth taking propecia and keeping careful watch to see if those symptoms develop. As Winston said, you could catch it early and then stop taking the drug.

Thanks for the comments so far. Is propecia required after you get hair transplant?

The transplanted hair will stay put regardless, but it's highly recommended that you continue to take the drug so that you can slow down or halt continued hair loss.

Thanks for the info so far. I'm gonna attach a picture, and would like to know if you guys can give me a ball park estimate of how much having the procedure would cost, or anything else that might be helpful.

    garcia123,

For something like gynecomastia, you will want to get multiple physician opinions.

It looks like you need 4,000-4,500 grafts to achieve a great density.

That would cost you between $15,000 to $20,000 depending on the procedure and physician you choose.

I highly recommend going with a strip procedure, since you need a large amount of grafts.

Yeah, strip is overall better since it has a higher success rate too.

You are quite thin and it takes a lot of grafts to help the crown area. But at least you still have an overall thickness which will help a lot. The temples still look in tact which helps.

    Good luck man
