This young guy was a premature infant and had an IV in his scalp which resulted in skin loss and scarring. There are a few options to deal with this. First, simply combing bangs over it will work until he gets male pattern baldness...but limits his hair style choices. Second, we could put hair in the scar that is in the hairline...but that won't address the shiny scar on his face..and he's going to have hairline recession naturally with aging...and then have to deal with an island of misfit hairs.... Third, we can cut the scar out, and if needed, put a few hairs around any residual scarline in his hair next year. That way IF he loses hair around those hairs, its an easy problem to treat with electrolysis or other modalities.
Mom and son participated in the decision to do this and live fairly locally so hopefully we'll get followup over the next year or 2.
