Saw Palmetto / Fin

Hi, new to this and looking for some advice. I am in my mid thirties and have had thinning hair since I was 16. Its never receeded but Its been pretty thin all over. I have used Regaine off/on since I was 18 as well as Nanogen fibres for last few years. My crown area is becoming noticably thinner and it's obviously causing me great distress. I am petrified to start taking propecis because of the real risk of sides, furthermore a family member took their life and they had been using it. Of course it may not be related but it really scares me. I was thinking of trying saw palmetto in a relatively small dose, 340 mg or something. What are peoples experiences with this? Cheers guys
