    Default Contractor for the FDA...

I am a sufferer from hairloss and I work as a contractor for the FDA, and it's my job to look for products that are BS that need to be taken down. I am writing this post with two hats:

    1) I know hairloss is not considered a medical disease by the FDA, so the BS products are not moderated the same way, or at all, compared to things like herpes or hepatitis drugs or dietary supplements. In fact,

    2) I had a hair transplant two years ago, at age 23, a FUT of 1000 grafts. I'm currently considering getting a new transplant, and I'm curious what the recommendations are on getting a FUT vs FUE, since I am fairly sure I'll need multiple transplants again in the future.

Also, I tried to call in several times and it's been busy =/

    Thanks.

    Hey renordw,

Welcome to the forum, and sorry that you haven't been able to get through during the broadcast.

It’s difficult for me to give you any advice unless you provide a more detailed description of your hair loss situation. There are many factors that come into play when choosing between FUE or FUT(conventional harvesting), and in my opinion the most important factor is whether or not you make a good candidate for a particular procedure.

Why don’t you upload a few images and we’ll take a closer look at your situation. Perhaps some of our IAHRS members can provide their opinions as well.

On another note, let your boys over the the FDA know that I’m more than happy to act in an advisory capacity, gratis of course, to help crack down on all the snakoilers that litter this field.

I am not a physician. My opinions and knowledge concerning hair loss and its treatment are based on extensive research and reporting on the subject as a consumer advocate and hair loss educator. My views and comments on the subject should not be taken as medical advice. Always seek the advice of a medical professional when considering medical and surgical treatment.

Haha, the problem is that at the FDA we don't have the authority to take down phony sites selling miracle hair cures. This is because we can only remove those sites selling dietary supplements that make drug-like claims, and due to a bunch of mumbo jumbo, a supplement can only be considered to make drug-like claims IF it can heal, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent a disease. And currently things like hair loss, teenage acne and menopause or not considered diseases, because they affect such a huge proportion of the population at one time or another, and do not "directly" compromise the overall health of the body.

As for me, I am gonna go take some pics and upload them in a few.

    Cheers
