Fasting can add a range of beneficial "regenerative" elements to the blood. Just thought I'd toss that into to mix for discussion. From my understanding, even intermittent fasting initiates apoptosis (cell death) to kill off old, weak cells and replaces them with healthy new ones. If the cell is no longer insulin sensitive, like a lot of people are these days from too much sugar/carbs, then I'm guessing those are the same people who I've read are less impressed with their person experience with PRP as compared to others who see great results and who probably have a better diet. I agree that it's best to use your own blood if possible, but I've been looking into stem cells and it seems if someone had a pretty bad illness, they need to find a healthy source for best result. Just throwing out another perspective to consider. Great discussion!

PRP Tips
Hi All,
Ive been looking over peer review research on the efficacy of PRP for hairloss, and I can tell you - it's very strongly supported. If done well, it can lead to a 35% increase in hair density.
I have been looking into the method that would yield the highest PRP concentration. Dhurat & Sukesh (2014) suggested that 1st spin at 900g and second at 1000g yields the best results.
As every centrifuge is different (and has a different diameter between tubes), you should calculate the RPM's necessary at each of the stages using the calculation available at this website: http://insilico.ehu.es/mini_tools/rcf_rpm.php. The radius is the distance between the bottom of the tube and the center of the rotator.
A few other tips:
1) when drawing blood, use a large needle (>22g). This will fasten up the process and limit the amount of blood clotting that occurs.
2) After blood draw, invert tubes 5-10 times for proper mixing of the anticoagulant and blood.
3)For highest yield results, centrifuge at 16 degrees C. For me, this is unrealistic, but i'lll try to reduce the temp to room temp.
4) after second spin, seperate the PRP from the PPP relatively quickly. With time, the PRP will slowly diffuse into the PPP.
5) Activation of PRP does not seem to provide any advantages.
Hope this helps. Good luck.Comment

No that vacutainer is not the right one. You want the vacutainer with a yellow top. This is the one I bought, link below. Yellow has the ACD-A anticoagolant. Some people use the vacutainer with EDTA but ACD-A is better. I got that info from a lengthy blog among doctors at this link (https://www.researchgate.net/post/Wh...trate_or_ACD-A)

Great conversation. I was wondering if there are other people that are self-administrating PRP therapy and I am kind of relieved they are.
I initially started injected my neck (I have a chronic issue), but eventually got deep into the general regenerative purposes.
Do you guys use prp therapy for specific physical issues only or for general prevention?
Hello, i wonder if i can use this tube for prp? thanks for answer

What centrifuges are you guys using? Any that are far better and preferable than than the rest?Comment

I only use PRP for hair treatment. The centrifuge I use is an older "Clay Adams Dynac" (link below) with a swing gate rotor that I bought on eBay for $190 including shipping. I paid a little extra so that I could get the swing gate rotor. The advantage of using a swing gate rotor is that the layers are perpendicular to the centrifugal force and lay flat in the tube. With non swing gate rotors the layers will be angled and there is also a slight remixing as the centrifuge slows down

I see a lot of people have had issues injecting the plasma into the scalp. How about using an injecting gun like this one??

On a side note...Has anyone tried Dermaheal? I read good things about it, but it might be yet another hair loss solution that does little to nothing - https://medisilk.com/dermaheal-hl-5-x-10-vials/
Price is not too steep. It is injected directly into the scalp as well. Has anyone even heard of it?Comment

It would definitely be easier. I also wonder about injecting directly into the scalp. I have a friend that is doing it, but she openly complains it is notoriously difficult.

I am inclined to try it since 150 bucks or so, but can't find much anecdotes on the internet, can you point me to some?Comment

Birdman and Zinkin, thank you for posting your experiences with at home PRP, it has been very helpful and motivating.
I have purchased my own centrifuge and currently working on finding the anticoagulant.
Is there an in depth tutorial on how to do this? I have been looking for a step by step guide and materials needed list and have not found anything.
I have just pieced together the process from various sources, but would appreciate your help in getting it done right the first time.
thanks again.Comment

Ok, just thought I'll put in my 2 cents. Links are just for references, I'm sure you can find something cheaper online or locally.
Drawing blood - I'm a phlebotomist. So this I know A LOT. get a butterfly needle, 21g or 23g. Either draw yourself or get someone to help you.
Needle holders - http://www.plcofamerica.com/blog/201...erfly-needles/
Tourniquets to help your veins pop and easier to draw: https://www.amazon.com/Physician-Sup...ds=Tourniquets
Tube rack for when you need to keep your tubes upright to pipette the RPR. Also use it to store your unused PRP in freezer (read below): https://www.amazon.com/SEOH-TEST-TUB...ds=tube+holder
Pipettes to remove plasma from your tubes: https://www.amazon.com/Qingsun-Dispo...words=pipettes
Look thru YouTube on how to do a simple blood draw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w3-gtzvenk
Type of Tubes: Tubes with ACD solutions or simple EDTA works fine too. The trick is to not let the blood clot. Without ACD or EDTA you will only get serum in return and not plasma. That said, I still prefer ACD.
ACD: https://www.amazon.com/Solution-Tube...ords=acd+tubes
Sterile tubes - you need some sterile tubes to keep your PRP before you transfer to your syringes. Also you can use this to storage your unused PRP and keep them in the freezer. Plasma is usable for up to one year if store in freezer. So keep in mind to draw a little more blood each time. When ready to use the frozen PRP, just thaw them in room temperature. https://www.amazon.com/EarthOx-Steri...=sterile+tubes
Centrifuge: https://www.amazon.com/Tangkula-Elec...rds=centrifuge
Ok here are the steps:
1. Draw your blood in ACD tubes. maybe 6-8 tubes if you want. Can save the rest of the PRP in freezer.
2. First Spin - Spin your tubes in centrifuge. Pipette the plasma and buffy coat into sterile tubes. If you get a little red blood cells that's fine too, no big deal. Just try to be careful only get plasma and buffy coat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffy_...ion-scheme.png
3. Second spin - spin your sterile tubes in centrifuge AGAIN. This is to get more concentrated PRP. Ok, now you should see a tube full of yellow goodness and possible a few drops on blood at the bottom. The droplets of blood is from your pipette session if you accidentally sucked in a little red blood cell. like i've said, no big deal. Ok, now look at the tubes, the top 2/3 of it is PPP (Platelet Poor Plasma). Those are not what you want. You only want to keep the bottom 1/3 of the plasma, which is your PRP (platelet RICH plasma). You can research what you can use with the PPP, mostly we just discard it. But I don't know, maybe you can rub on your face? http://image.ec21.com/company/b/bs/b...pimg/01-03.jpg
So at this point, you will want to pipette out top 2/3 of it and discard. Save the rest of it for your injection. Injecting your PRP with a little droplets of red blood cell is okay.
4. Injection - Use lidocaine numbing cream if you want. https://www.amazon.com/Lidocane-Plus...lidocaine+4%25. Follow package instructions.
Get yourself some 1-3ml syringes. Get the needles from here: https://beautygroup-shop.com/meso-re...-12mm-25mm-1pc. Why you asked? because these needles are 4mm deep. You want the PRP to be as near to your hair follicles as possible. Your hair follicles are about 4mm deep from your scalp. This 4mm needles will also prevent your injections to go too shallow or too deep. Some people like to add calcium to "open up" the platelets. You can do that too. But seriously, this step is optional.
5. Frequency? Well, once every two weeks sounds reasonable to start with. Then you can reduce to once every 4 weeks.
Good luck!Comment

Well I got 2 sessions of PRP done about 18 months ago. I THINK it helped my hair growth then and since then i have lost a lot of hair consistently. So I was wondering if doing PRP now can help me get my hair back.Comment

I have used Rogaine for 35 years but have only been doing PRP + microneedling for 6 weeks (once every 2 weeks). I am sure that the hairs have thickened in areas that where they were miniaturizing. Its too early for me to say if anything has grown back but my understanding is that the combination of PRP + microneedling can regrow hairs that have fallen out up to 2 years earlier. This video by HAIRLICIOUSLY on Youtube shows many outstanding results where hair has grown back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMBRNaY5TQkComment
