Default Does the Hair Growth Cycle cause thinning?

Can you have thinning hair and NOT be related to hair loss?

Just today after scratching my head, I've noticed 3 of my fallen hairs had been miniaturised (thinner than usual), but I can't tell if that's normal and part of the Hair Growth Cycle or a sign of hair loss. Thanks.
