Avoiding Minox shed

I feel i'm slowly losing ground on fin, I really want to throw Minox into my regime but very scared of the dreaded shed that doesn't return.

Does anyone know if you apply minox to the crown area only, would that only risk the crown area from shedding? I was thinking about trying the crown first to see what affect it has on my hair, then if it works well i'd start using it on the mid anterior scalp as well.
