Default Extremely thin hair strand, what does this mean?

Just now I pulled out an extremely thin hair strand (singular) from the back of my scalp. It looked like it was losing its natural colour (my hair is black) - it looked dark gray.

If anyone might know what does this mean? Does this have to do with hair loss? Lack of nutrients for that particular hair strand? Or normal?

    Thanks.
