Default Seborrhoic Eczema and Hair Transplants

I'm four weeks post-op and my scalp starts flaking in some areas where hair got transplanted. Any advices for me? Is it save to use Nizoral?

Somebody had experience with eczemas after their HT?

Every now and then I read about someone having this post-op experience with the scalp flaking.

The best advice is to see a dermatologist for a diagnosis. Then you will have a better idea on how to treat the problem

I have seborhoic dermatis. Primarily at the occipital it has been chronic since teenage years and caused thinning at the back of my head where it resided. I have also had an HT precisely 6 months ago to the day and developed similar scaling at the recipient site which until now has persisted.

Seb derm is a b***h to combat.

I have 95% erradicated seb derm at the occipital. I use 3% salylic acid shampoo applied once or twice a week and left on for 10 mins before washed out. Applied after a quick normal shampoo.

The rest of the time I use Alphosyl shampoo left on for 5-10 mins daily b4 washing out.

    This alone is not enough.

Rinsing hair with cool water is helpful. Avoiding rinsing with bath water. Use clear water. Soft water is ideal. A hard water filter is a bonus.

I also once weekly apply neat apple cidar vinager on my scalp whilst dry to soak into my scalp. I do this in the bath cos it stinks. Then shampoo, then rinse, with cool clear water. I can then usually comb dead skin and sebum out of my hair and slough the scalp.

Combing scalp when scalp is wet after washing clears a lot of crap of the scalp. This is NOT essential if you have a shampoo brush and scrub your scalp quite aggressively when shampooing. One or the other is essential IMO The latter is preferable. Both are ideal at the beginning of treatment. This process will allow medicated shampoos to work more effectively.

Keto creams etc. may be useful at the beginning but hopefully the above will be enough. 10% urea moisturising lotion is good too. Keratolytics really help moisurise and remove dead skin to allow medications to work.

Re the transplant. Avoid salyclic acid shampoos. Avoid alcohol. Avoid minox and propylene glycol. Do gently but thoroughly exfoliate the scalp. Urea lotion has been slowly breaking down scaling and seems to be working alone to heal my recipient for me.

    Good luck.

I tried a lot against it, best thing was piroctone olamine pouder mixed with alcohol.
What would you say when will it be safe to use it again After a hair transplant?
