Follicum Announces First Healthy Volunteer Dosed With FOL-005

FOL-005 is a product that is supposed to be able to both promote or inhibit hair growth.

Link about its hair growth capabilities

On 19 January 2016 the first healthy volunteer received treatment with FOL-005, initiating the clinical phase I/IIa safety/efficacy study according to Follicum’s previously communicated time plan. Previously FOL-005 has shown effective inhibition of hair growth on living human skin tissue in vitro but this is the first time it has been used in man.Treatment of around 30 healthy volunteers is planned with the primary purpose to investigate the safety and the secondary purpose to investigate the efficacy of the candidate drug FOL-005.
Finalization of the study and communication of the results is expected during 2016.

The study is being performed at the Clinical Research Center for Hair and Skin Science (CRC) at the university hospital Charité in Berlin, Germany.

More good news, although I assume the plots they show in the first link are tests on mice?

Yes, I think so. Never know where this leads, but the more research and researchers on the case, the merrier for us. They have started trials with humans, and aiming at presenting results before end of 2016.

Anyone happen to know what kind of molecule this is? What does it do exactly anyway in terms of biological activity?

Knock yourself out (you'll probably get more out of this than I can):

The present invention provides a composition for stimulating hair growth in a mammal comprising a modified osteopontin polypeptide in which an RGD domain is inactivated; and a pharmaceutically acceptable and/or cosmetically acceptable excipient, carrier or diluent. The invention further provides methods of stimulating hair growth in a mammal.

No problem, it would be interesting to hear what more knowledgable people think about this. I think it is really interesting that they are talking about products both to halt/stop hair growth AND promote hair growth.

In any case I think there are exciting times ahead for all medical advences and I hope MPB-sufferers will benefit of more research on different pathways.
