New here
Hello
IN the recent last couple years I have had significant hair loss. Mostly in the front center. I have tried Rogaine and Lipogaine. NO help at all. It is getting worse by the day it feels like. Anyways, I am going to take the hair transplant plunge in May after my hockey season. Both dr's I consulted with told me to take Propecia .5, I have filled the prescription but have been scared to death to take it.
I have seen many positive stories on the medicine but still resistant to take it. I have two months filled and waiting! ha
I am driving myself crazy with this hair loss! Nice to come to a place that is in similar company.

First of all, it is a good thing that you joined this particular hairloss forum, BTT!!
BTT, Isles3022 , is the right place to be at for good advice and help!!
Please answer these questions from me:
1) How old are you now Isles3022? That is important information in order for us all to
give you decent advice !
2) What age did you first seem to first notice a change to your hairline?
3) Could you please post RECENT photos of your hairline, front and back.
(NO NEED to show your face of course) Make sure that you use decent lighting.
What you had said here:
"It is getting worse by the day it feels like"
Its good that you are being honest when you said that 'it feels like' your hair is getting 'worse' .
The fact is that your hair might NOT be getting worse.
Emotions, STRESS and WORRY will not allow you to review anything in life properly and objectively.
In other words, 'step-back' a little bit from any serious concerns when it comes to your hairline.
We here would need to know the answers to those 3 questions I asked of you.
One more thing, Propecia has a long proven history of HELPING men's hairloss at differing percentages.
Propecia(Finasteride), like all other prescribed medicines in life,
could have bad sides to a very very SMALL % of people!
So do NOT allow yourself to become worried about something that, more than likely , it would NOT hurt you!!
Ive been on Finasteride since Aug. 2013...I have not experienced ANY BAD sides from it AND it IS continuing to help my hairloss!!
Im not saying that you should go on it just yet....please show us your photos,,and answer those questions truthfully....cheers Isles3022

PLEASE SLOW DOWN!!! YOU DON'T WANT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES I DID!! You need to post pictures and get opinions from reputable people on this site and well respected IAHRS surgeons.
1) how old are you?
2) Are you willing to post pictures? Just of your head - this is critical
3) You NEED to have stabilized your hair loss THROUGH medication before getting a hair transplant - this is MOST critical. Why? Let me give my brief story as an example - Was 31, had ALMOST a full head of hair except for ONE area. Got a transplant. Lost 50% of my hair and 2.5 years later it is still gone. I was NOT on finasteride and that's most likely why.
4) WHO have you consulted with? Give us a name
DO NOT RUSH INTO THIS

Thanks guys!!
I am 45 years old
I have noticed hair loss about 5 years ago, though last 2 it seems to have accelerated.
I will post pics when I get home from work
I have consulted with Dr. Kim in Syracuse NY
and have another consultation with Dr. Beehner from a place in Albany NY.

Isles' good to hear back from you!
I started experiencing The beginnings of major hairloss around 39/40 years old too.
My life at that time had turned bad.
I went through major stress and major sadness in my life back then.
It had nothing to do with my hair of course.
That was quite a while ago!!
Since then, my life has been great!
The stress that I suffered back then had a big negative impact on my hair!!
I bring this up because, you, and everybody else, cannot allow one's self to become stressed out for whatever reason!
Can't wait to see your photos!!
We will help you bro!!

IAHRS Recommended Hair Transplant Surgeon
The truth about hair loss is that each case is unique. The finasteride can take 6 to 12 months to show any benefit. If you happen to experience the side effects, they will usually discontinue after you stop taking the medication. Welcome to the forum, Isles3022.
All the best

May I ask why some people are scared of finasteride? I take 2.5mg a day and have no sides.

People are scared of what we read. Sadly you don't hear enough good stuff
