Propecia and the more mature gent
Never been on any meds for hair loss , so a quick question for anyone who can give advice .
I'm early 50's , NW6 hair loss and shortly to undergo my first HT .Would propecia be of any benefit in my circumstances considering ( hopefully ) that my current hair loss may be at its full extent ?

its be reported that taking propecia or dut months before a ht will help for shock loss.
could be a good idea to start a regimen on dut and see what growth you can get first

What does shock loss matter to a NW6? There's nothing there to be shocked out.

I dont honestly feel age is an issue. The medication (5mg) came about due to it being prescribed for older men with enlarged prostates. A side effect was their hair grew back so merk looked into it in greater depth and realised 1mg finasteride is all that is required. Despite being high on the NW scale it might well be advisable to consider finasteride in order to help strengthen the sides and back and keep the sides at top high and prevent them from dropping any further.
Info on finasteride can be found on my website also if this helps: http://spexhair.com/propecia-information/
I personally get a prescription for 5mg and cut it into 5ths = 1mg and cheap.
Feel free to email me if i can help further in anyway.

This is actually incorrect. Finasteride was known to benefit hair when the researcher Imperio designed it to block 5AR2 modeling it after psuedoherms from the Dominican Republic.
It was put through trials for BPH first because it would make for an easier time obtaining FDA approval.

No problem. Not many doctors even know. I tried to find a reputable source to coincide with my statement and surprisingly Bernstein has it.
Scroll to history of finasteride.

To summarize: Propecia was designed to change your hormonal profile to that of a pseudoherm, albeit after DHT has already developed you through puberty.
I take it myself but by no means is this a casual hairloss drug. It's an incredibly powerful medication.
Use with caution after a detailed benefit vs risk assessment with a qualified healthcare professional.

Having HT in a couple of days , so too late to take pre-op.

Ha - Not quite totally bald at the front / mid region. Obvious concern is that the shock loss may put a finish to these though.
