How many hairs should come out in the shower - 12 years on Fin

I've been on propescia / finasteride but about a dozen year and now at 34 i'm starting to see more hair in my hand every time im showering. Everyone tells me, "oh your hair goes through cycles", "you lose a hundred hairs per day" but I have a feeling the propescia has finally met it's match (taking 1mg btw).

From your experience how noticeable was the hair loss in the shower? Are we talking about 4-5 hairs each shampoo or much more?

This will depend on how conscientious you are about your hair. The shower is an environment where you are more likely to see the collection of these naturally shedding hairs. During a shower, you are freeing oil, dead skin, and hair. Combing, brushing, styling, and removing headgear produces traction which promotes change.

it totally depends. I wear hairspray for the entire day, so hairs can't fall out naturally. When I shower and brush it's at least 60-70 hairs total and I am at about 50% density of what I used to be.

It also depends on how often you wash your hair. If you wash it every day, you'll see a more consistent amount of hairs each time you shower. If you go 2-3 days without washing your hair however, you'll see a whole lot more hair when you finally do get around to washing it. It's not that you're losing more - it's just the accumulative hairs that hadn't fallen from your head yet since you hadn't given it a wash. For example, if you normally see maybe 10 or so hairs when you wash your hair and then go 3 days without washing it, you may notice 30 or so in your hands when you do. This can can obviously be alarming, but totally normal.
