Default Question about FUT after FUT

First off i'm a long time lurker, and this is my first new thread. Love the forum!

I do not want to debate FUT vs FUE here but I have a question about FUT scars.

I notice that a lot of FUT pts posting here really do have scars that are extremely hard to see and, to me, look like great outcomes i.e. very fine lines that would be hard to detect at all in a real world situation unless their hair was cut very short. My question is can you have this good a scar outcome if you have more than 1 FUT procedure. I.e. do subsequent FUT procedures increase the risk of a more visible or prominent strip scar or can you still have a very fine scar even if you have more than 1 FUT?

    Thanks!

    Hi Driver,

Welcome to the forum. You ask a good question and the answer is, yes, you can have a good scar outcome with multiple surgeries. I'm living proof. BUT, it is never a guarantee and each subsequent donor scar does in fact increase the chances of stretchback unless your surgeon really knows what he's doing and can understand the nuances of donor tension.

Tension in the donor area is already variable on a virgin, untouched scalp. It varies from one centimeter to the next which is why even a first time strip must be taken with care and not rushed. Once you go back for round two, three, etc. the tolerances become less and less and the room for error is equally reduced. Even in my own case each donor scar was not perfect and after my third surgery I needed a revision to the back of my donor area. It turned out great but this area was left alone in my fourth and final strip removal and instead shorter strips from either side of my scalp were taken as the laxity and donor hair was still favorable in these areas.

Nothing is guaranteed in hair restoration. Even when you get a guarantee it is not a guarantee as no one has a crystal ball. The best thing to do is to avoid surgery altogether but if you cannot, and must move on surgically, tread caustiously and don't rush.

Thanks Joe. Very helpful. The good thing is I'm not in any rush at all. Really more acquiring data at this phase. If anybody has a picture of their scar site after more than one FUT that would be really helpful.
