Can fue method hairs transplant be planted anywhere on the head?

Just wondered if donor hairs can be planted to any other areas on the head like for instance, im having an fue next week, 2 patches on the side of my head need filling, but i want some planting all over the top of my head to make it thicker, can this be done? even though theres no baldness patches ect...

    Hi Dean,

Technically, hairs can be transplanted anywhere you want and the method of extraction is irrelevant. FUE is only a way to get the hairs that you want to plant. Where they are planted depends on two factors.

    1. Will it make a cosmetic improvement? In other words, will you be able to see a positive difference?

    2. Is there too much hair already growing in the area? This is important because if there is too much hair then the surgeon might damage them so that they fall out and don't grow back. This is called permanent "shock loss" and it directly affects point # 1. If too much hair is already in the recipient zone and some of that hair is shocked out then the new hairs may not make a visible improvement and you may even have LESS hair in the area after the new hairs have grown.

Talk to your doctor about this and bring the answers back here. Also, post up some photos of the areas you are concerned about and the membership may be able to help.

Ok thank's for the info, would they be able to plant a few on the top then? without damaging anything, say around 50 hairs scattered on top, would that be ok to do?

        Dean,
Technically, yes of course. Fifty hairs can be placed anywhere but if that is all you need you have to ask if it will make any visible improvement. My gut says no but I also have no idea what your loss looks like. If you are slick bald then fifty hairs will make a huge difference. Where once there was no hair there is now hair. That is night and day. If you have hair on top then it most likely won't make any visible difference at all.
