Default Pain in FUE Hair Transplant

I have read on the: UK Health Centre hair transplants guide that in Follicular Unit Extraction/Follicular Transfer (FUE/FT), only a local aneasthetic is given and that there is little or no pain. Is this true? i have heard that hair transplants are very painful. Have technques changed and are those days long gone? Please help, i am serious about having the treatment. Also, what qulaifications should a surgeon have?
