safe to perm hair ?

I had a hair transplant earlier and was thinking of perming my hair now, is there any damage that can come from damaging transplanted or existing hair ? Never had a perm done.. can it damage hair and cause permanent hair loss if not done correctly ?

i heard it can help make the hair look thicker ? thought its worth a shot . but just wanted to be sure if it could cause any damage to the hair , I'm not saying brittle or dry, but could it actually cause the hairs to fall out and not grow back ?
