Many of us get told the exact same thing when we first start losing our hair. If you think you are losing your hair more than likely you are.

Maybe. If you really want to know go to a doctor that specializes in hair loss. Take it from me, not every doctor knows about hair loss and how to treat it. I was pretty much your age when it started happening to me. I regret not treating it at the first signs.

Well, your head is full of hair, that is why any thinning or shedding may be not noticeable from the first sight. To catch the moment it is better to consult a specialist and if needed seek the advice of more than one doctor (as NotCoolAnymore noticed, not all the doctors know much about hair loss and its treatment).
As you may know, hair loss is mostly a genetic issue. What is your family history? Do your father and grandfathers lose their hair?

Yep as said before, if you notice your hair loss you likely have lost hair and will continue to do so.
What would you do if you knew you were going to be bald in 5 years time?
Plan your life accordingly, don't expect to have your hair forever, find a woman soon.
