    Here is the short story

    Guys,
I'm african american and age 38. I'm seeing lot of thinning in my temple area, that triangle area on top of head. I would like to address the thinning and just do maintenance as I loose hair. I don't want to do any FUT instead I want FUE. I usually keep my hair low. Do you think transplant is right for me? I'm in the washington dc area and there is only on dr that is member of IAHRS. Should I consider visiting dr in other states (california, ny, illionis)? Do you think the hair transplant can actually work for me, I don't see to much procedures with african americans in forum..I also don't want to take any rogaine on the other hair loss medicine. Any recommendations on best the HT Dr for african american?
    Im thinking of these dr:
    DR U - dermhairclinic
    Dr Diep
    Dr Turowski
Dr Parker (not members IAHRS) - Virginia
Dr Lindsley (he recommend FUT when i visit last year)
    Dr Yates

What are you thoughts, any african americans on board that have procedure, please share your experience with me.

    Cutta,

I agree and would not recommend FUHT in your case if you want to keep a short hair style. So as you stated that leaves FUE and you definitely want a surgeon who has proven success with your hair characteristics assuming that you naturally have a tighter curl to your hair. Curly hair is much more challenging to extract with FUE and why you want to see proven past cases if you do have this characteristic to your hair.

Some Asians and African Americans have lower levels of density and another reason why skill and proficiency is imperative.

I live in the greater Wash DC area so you are free to contact me by email if you want. My premonition is that you would need to travel outside our area to get the best qualified.

Lastly, what is the most advanced Norwood class of hair loss on either side of your family history? Are there any Norwood class 6 and 7s?

Dr. Umar, Dr. Diep and Dr. Parker as you indicated are not in the IAHRS so I would personally scratch them off my list, but that's me. I would also upload some pictures so members can get a better idea if it’s really even worth you going through a hair transplant. Dr. Yates seems to perform FUE on a good number of African Americans and always comes across as a straight shooter so you might want to ask him directly if he even thinks you're a good candidate.

I have seen 2 HT dr and forgot to ask them my Norwood class. I can probably hold off 1 or 2 years on HT, since its just thinning in the temple region. My mother brothers have full head of hair, my dad has dreads, but his brother is bald on top and most male cousins on fathers side are bald on top, they are over 40 years old. I'm thinking Dr. Yates is best HT dr for, since he probably most familiar with my type of hair, just need to figure out how im going to make it chicago for consultation. I really wanted to do HT near DC area, in case there is issue, i'm close to dr. I will try and get picture uploaded. Thanks for all your advise.
