So about 4 months ago I noticed my hair looked different. All the sudden the sides of my head (around the ears especially, but further up the sides as well) and back of my head (hair nearest to my neck) began rapidly loosing thickness of hair. I am 18 and already have a receding hair line. My father and my mothers father are both bald, but my dad lost his hair at around 24. I just want to know if it's a side effect of male pattern baldness or a health related issue. If it's mpb then I'm just shaving it off. Any reply or advice will be helpful seeing as this has been stressing me out for some time now. I have pictures in the links
Losing hair on sides and back of head?

I heard someone else on this forum label that kind of hairloss as Diffuse Unpattern Alopecia, these people lose the majority of their hair. How "bald" are the men in your family? Hair on the sides and back? Receded sides and back? Or Close to nothing?
Keep searching, you will figure it out. Good luck. -
I have the exact same condition.
Those hairs I have above ears/nape pull out easily and they look bit curly as well with every hair being miniaturized. From my understandings, it doesn't get worse and it remains like that for a long time because I had that since as long as I remember, but I did some research and people says it's a sign of aggressive hair loss or retrograde alopecia. IT's definitely not alopecia areta and most likely retrograde alopeciaComment
