Minoxidil: Am I too far gone?

One last question: Minoxidil has an alcohol base, which dries the skin. How does one combat the ageing effects it may have?

I have a bottle of 7.5 % minoxidil lying around. I have started using it.... and will later get a 5% bottle. It expires April 2015.

Please let me know if I shouldn't use it...

UPDATE: I finally started applying minoxidil 7.5% (near expiration date) on January 11. Have missed only three applications since.

So it has been 20 days and I see NO CHANGE AT ALL.

But I know it takes time, so I'll keep applying for another month for now. I'm feeling discouraged though.

Can anyone tell me how long I should stay at it before drawing conclusions?
