Right I emailed Susan again and there I no way she can formulate S-Equol due to purchase issues etc.
Here's her response to an alternative;
"So this is an Equol like product that hair loss guys can take by mouth to do the same thing…block DHT without sides.
*
Soy Isoflavones Extract 1000mg
Soy Isoflavones is an isoflavone plant extract standardized to 2.5%-3.5% isoflavones. Each 1000 mg tablet provides the following isoflavones: genistein, genistin, daidzin, daidzein, glycitin and glycitein.
60 Tablets
This is what S-Equol is Jazz….an isoflavone….topically?????? Never tested, no formula available."
I asked if a topical lotion could be formulated her reply;
"Absolutely!*
0.1% *translates to 1mg per dropperful."
So if you guys are interested in this product she could formulate this for you guys?Comment

I'm not sure that applying soy isoflavones is a good idea. Equol is a metabolite of diadzein, not genistein, and while there is much research that remains to be done, especially as it relates to hair, equol has different mechanisms of action in the body than soy isoflavones. For example,no other compound (including daidzein and genistein) has yet been identified that has selective estrogen action and yet also has the ability to be an antagonist of androgen action. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-equol More importantly with respect to this post, I have read numerous articles drawing the following consclusion: "genistein was shown to decrease hair growth by 60 to 80% when hair follicles isolated from scalp biopsies were treated in culture." http://www.soyconnection.com/newslet...-Skin-Benefits. If one of the lead researchers of equol over the last 20 years is correct in his preliminary research, in vitro, showing that equol appears to have a positive impact on hair follicles, clearly the application of equol and soy isoflavones cannot be considered comparable.Comment

Given that oral capsules are now coming available from various sources (at least 3 now), and that it is available in a cosmetic vehicle for skin, I don't think it will be long before someone comes out with a topical.Comment

Just making sure guys are aware of the possible downside. Personally, I am going to wait for some more research on equol regarding it's effect on hair. I have no doubt about equol's ability to almost completely counteract DHT in the scalp (given the right vehicle and dosage) http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/1...87B557F.f03t03. And while the estrogenic effects of equol on hair are likely very positive as well (http://techtransfer.byu.edu/products...weight-control & http://www.heraldextra.com/news/loca...a199126e0.html) , I've been reading a lot in general about the effects of estrogens on hair and it is a very complicated subject.

Here are products with equol in them. But I seriously doubt that there is enough dosage (especially given the cost) in the facial serum to do you any good and the others would have to be dissolved in ethanol and converted for use as a topical.
