Finasteride - long term efficacy debate
Hey guys,
I've been maintaining my hair for 12-13 years on finasteride, and I'm happy to say there has been little to no change in my hair. I thought I noticed a little bit of thinning in my crown, but it came right back in when I added Regenepure shampoo to my regimen.
I'm 36 now, and I'm starting to get a little anxious about the theories regarding finasteride losing its efficacy. There is so much conflicting information on the internet about this topic, that my research usually leaves me more confused than when I began.
Does anyone really have any hard evidence one way or the other on this? What is Merck's position on this?
I know Spencer K. and others have mentioned they are now approaching twenty years of effective treatment, and others who say the medication craps out in 5-10 years.
For me, it seems to be holding strong, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't worry about it daily.
I am also hearing some theories about hair becoming more sensitive do DHT, and hairloss becoming increasingly aggressive at the point of finasteride "losing its efficacy."
Does anyone have any real experience with this after being on fin long term? I was always under the impression that, even if your hairloss continues slowly while on Fin, you are still better off than you would be without taking it.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

anyone have any thoughts on this? are there a silent community (inactive on internet) who maintain 10+? If so how typical is this?

I hear Spencer K is taking 5mg finesteride every third day?

I have been using Propecia since 2001, but I have been losing ground for the last 3-4 years. For me Propecia peaked its efficiency around year 7. Been going downhill ever since.
