No. Looking at symptoms, I think my levels are fine anyway.

What I don't get about DHT is that my levels are kind of low, but my sex drive is fine.

Dermatolgoist thinks it's Alopecia Areata, but I'm almost certain she's wrong. She was more concerned with my not-yet-filled-in beard hair and tiny vitiligo spot. She immediately jumped to the conclusion it's an autoimmune thing and gave me a topical steroid lotion to put on my face and scalp to see if my hair gets any better.

So I have to wait six weeks before going back for her to inevitably tell me that it's not working and that I need injections that won't do anything for me either.

Why she'd look at my thinning scalp, hairline, sideburns, and nape of neck and think "Yep, autoimmune disease." is beyond me.

Dermatoligists dgaf really and never get to the root of inflamation but they instead blame the inflamation itself. Thinning i recomend you go see a trichologist, and theres one that has been on the bald truth talk show who hasd ealt with your kind of hairloss before and he shows evidence that he can aid the reversal of thinning DUPA. His name is william gaunitz. I suggest you see him, hes the only hope for male thinning of the sides and back

DUPA is different then retrograde alopecia. I have retrograde alopecia but not DUPA. DUPA for those that don't know what it is is diffused unpatterned alopecia. Basically, you lose hair EVERYWHERE. There is no donor site. With retrograde, you lose hair on the sides and nape of your neck but you still have a donor site. Way better than DUPA.

I've heard that Finasteride doesn't work too well with DUPA so I hope that's not what I have -- I don't think it is, but I won't really know until I get a miniaturization map.

Try the hair pull test with potential donor sites.

That shows my crown thinning (slight as of now) and obvious hair loss at my nape. Sideburn area is thinning a lot too.

My hair seems to be in-tact in the Norwood 7 area.

I've looked into things like Alopecia Areata. Ophiasis appears to be something possible, but I'm not sure. It's hard to say. I don't think it is though, because I'm also thinning in my crown and my hair line is receding. It could be that AND aggressive MPB, I don't know.

All I know is I'm going to just demand a Finasteride prescription on the 6th when my next appointment is.

On one hand I wish it was AA because there's an actual cure for it now (some medicine used to treat bone cancer patients), but who knows. I'm hesitant to take Finasteride for hair loss around my ears and the nape of my neck because I've read it doesn't help with that more than that it does.

EDIT: I've also noticed vertical ridges on a few of my nails, which is apparently something that happens in AA. Looking at a few of my nails pointed directly at my eye, the nail almost looks like ^.

I think it may be ophiasis and MPB. Or maybe just retrograde alopecia. Or maybe just ophiasis. Maybe the nails mean nothing.

Really though, will Finasteride work for the nape of the neck and sides of the head? I know you said Finasteride would WORK but will it work THERE?

I guess what I should really ask is, will Finasteride even do anything for retrograde alopecia? Does RA happen because hair follicles are sensitive to DHT like in AGA?

Retrograde alopecia is a more aggressive form of MPB. I've been on fin and I'm still losin hair everywhere. I think we would need something more powerful such as Dut but I'm not about to mess with that. I'll take a shaved/bald head any day than an incapable reproductive system.

I've read that just because you may have a strange balding pattern in your 20s doesn't NECESSARILY mean you'll be Norwood 7.

Do you have any recent pics?

My hair loss is most obvious when I wake up in the morning and my hair at the back of my head is flat from being on the pillow. After I shower, it puffs back up and I can only barely see through to my scalp at certain angles. The only areas that still look noticeably thin are my nape and the area above my sideburns. When my hair is shorter, it looks like I got a brutal haircut.

Here's a pic of what it looks like when I wake up:

                        And then after I shower:

                        Like magic.

Still, I can tell it's thinning. I may just need to get a hair cut and then go back to the dermatologist for them to more clearly see thinning.

The three dermatologists I've gone to have said they see nothing to indicate MPB. As for the nape of my neck, one said Alopecia Areata, another said "it's normal to recede a bit back there", and the last one just said "I see what you're talking about."

I'm just taking pictures from different angles and with different hair lengths to determine how much hair I'm losing and how fast.

Don't even listen to the doctors. Don't listen to ANYONE! For years people told me, including doctors that I wasn't losing hair. Guess what, I'm a diffused Norwood 3-4. It's awful. I still have the same hairline but my hair is so transparent now. Just keep an eye on it. I would try out CB. It looks like you have some thinning but yours may only be mild. If you're shedding a crapload then it's probably aggressive.

                            What is "CB"?

Also I estimate I'm losing 150 to maybe 200 hairs a day, closer to 150 if I had to guess. Last derm I saw said about 150 a day is normal, but I'm COUNTING about 150 on some days, so I'm losing more than that. Minor scalp itch. Hairline has receded on the left side a little bit, and right side looks to have not receded at all, or very little.

When I got a pull test at the third dermatologist I went to, she got a hair every time she pulled, but claimed "It's normal to lose at least one hair every time you do this."

...not sure I believed that, but she seemed intelligent otherwise.

I plan on trying to just keep an eye on it, but I've been pretty much consistently stressing out about my hair for the past ~2 months. Some days I get lucky and don't even really think about it, but if I touch my head and see a hair fall out, I go back to obsessively thinking about it.

Of course, going on this forum and other hair loss sites doesn't help anything.

                            Again though, what's CB?

No that's not normal to get a hair everytime you pull your hair. Wow, do these dermatologists just not care or are they uneducated. God that's annoying.

Check out CB in the future treatments and cutting edge forum.

Since stopping Nizoral, I feel like I'm losing a normal amount of hair per day (maybe 100? if that?), and about five in the shower compared to the thirty I was losing.

I'm still just keeping an eye on it, but I do have a follow-up appointment with a dermatologist on the 19th. I should my hair cut short again before going in, but I'm trying to see how it looks grown out a decent bit first. If I am losing my hair (I'm thinking I am), I don't think it's especially aggressive for now.
