Hair is miniaturizing and thinning rapidly.
My uncle, mom, and grandma (all on the same side) have had issues with thin hair, so I'll put that out there.
I noticed maybe a year ago that I was thinning a bit at the very back of my head. I figured that maybe it's always been like that and I just never noticed, but it seems to have gotten worse.
I also have it near my left sideburn area, and above my right ear. At first I thought maybe it was an awful haircut, but a slight tug, and sure enough, silver-like thin hair came right out without effort (they look miniaturized). It's the same story with the hair on my forehead.
I have a physical next month and plan on asking about my hair. I'm in disbelief because this seems to be getting worse pretty quickly and it's all over my head -- except the top, as far as I can tell. Here are a few pictures...

and a few more pics that might be better...

Crown: http://oi58.tinypic.com/293ajjc.jpg (Looks quite thin but I think it's the lighting because as far as I remember it's always looked like that.)

I'm pretty worried because based on pictures it would appear that I have DUPA. However, this seems to be coming on pretty suddenly. I'm having occasional scalp itch where a hair or two comes out when I scratch that area, which is probably not a good sign. I estimate that I've been losing about 200 hairs a day for at least the past week.
After reading so many horror stories about Propecia (impotence, man boobs), I'm thinking about not bothering with that.
Can anybody lend some advice? Thanks. My last question is: is it possible to have hair miniaturization without having hair loss? I'm concerned because I'm losing quite a few short, weak, not-the-color-of-my-hair hairs at the back of my head that's already quite thin...

Hey there,
Honestly, the only picture that makes sense with male pattern baldness is the one of your temple. It looks maybe slightly receded in that area. The. Crown just looks like your swirl and the lighting. The other pictures of the sides and the back of your heads wouldn't really be consistent with MPB, as those areas are rarely lost even in the totally bald guys, and it's usually the last to go.
Also, based on your family history, you are likely prone to developing MPB unfortunately, and at this time propecia and minoxidil (which I think doesn't work very well) are the only medical options proven to work. I wouldn't necessarily believe what you read on the internet about finasteride, or at least take it with a grain of salt. I would definitely recommend talking to your doctor about your concerns and see what they say
How old are you btw?

23.
Yeah I'm definitely receding and it's happening quickly. Lots of miniaturization happening. Little hairs falling out when i barely touch the back of my head and temples. Slight itchiness throughout my scalp as well.
I have an appointment in a couple weeks. Can't imagine how much hair I'll have lost by then. It's coming out like crazy and seemingly out of basically nowhere. I keep hoping that maybe it's a thyroid issue or some sort of deficiency, but I know that it's more than likely not.
Also Finasteride/Propecia I read only helps with hair on top of the head... I have virtually no hair loss up there, just at my hair line, sides, and back of head -- even when I touch my ears the "peach fuzz" comes right out without effort. Pretty sure I have DUPA or something. I lose a lot of eyebrow and eyelash hair as well, but it doesn't seem super patchy like my hair does.
