Wow! There really is a forum for everything on the internet.
I am a 40 year old, short, out of shape male. My hair has been thinning since I was around 28 or so. It never got really bad, but my hair was thin all around, except for a horseshoe, which was really thick.
My style was, I would spike nearly all of it in a messy way. (See Attached picture)
I wanted to shave it back when I first met my wife, but she refused. She also has me shave off my mustache and goatee, which I didn't like.
I know, why am I letting a woman do this to me.....I know....but it is what it is.
Anyway.....
My wife put up some pics from memorial day and I got really upset because you can see how my hair is so thin and it looks ridiculous. So she finally told me to just shave it to a 4 clip and see what happens.
Well, I shaved it with a 4 clip, she said go lower.
I took it to a 3 clip. She liked it, but it still didn't look right. I went to work like that.
I received MANY compliments!
I went home and took it down to a 1 clip.
I received even more compliments. Basically, people at work were telling me that I look way better than I did when I was holding on to my ridiculous hair cut.
Now I took it all the way down to a zero clip. I am not going to bic it, I just don't have the patience.
Anyway, with my round ugly face, I now look like a cue ball. Should I have not taken it down to a zero? The one just made it look like the horse shoe was still there, but the hair on the top and front was practical gone. Now it looks like it is all gone.
Symmetrical, in my opinion.
Not sure if I should grow in some facial hair or not, and what kind. It sucks that this part of my life is now over. I am not going to bitch and whine about it, because it is what it is, but it does suck!
Dude you're just beating yourself up! It looks money! I agree...the "bic" is totally not worth the effort etc. And I get the whole "obey thy woman" thing. We all do it. But you look good in that pic, so stop torturing yourself! By all means, experiment with facial hair....because that is hair you will never lose! And you might like one look or another!
I wanted to shave it back when I first met my wife, but she refused. She also has me shave off my mustache and goatee, which I didn't like.
My wife thinks I look younger without a goatee. Women certainly are opinionated. I suggest you experiment and find a look that you and your wife can live with. At 40, your hair loss isn't as bad as some guys. Usually frontal loss bothers men the most. You might try Rogaine + Propecia for two or three years to see if some of the hair up front thickens up. If not and it still bothers you, unless there's a hair growth breakthrough, the best option will be hair transplants. FUE performed by an experienced physician is best if you want to wear your hair short.
