Expiration date finasteride packs

Dear forum members,

I have a question about finasteride, more specifically in the form of Proscar tablets (5mg) from Merck. Do any of you know how many years a pack stays good for consumption? I am thinking about getting a bunch so that the sum of money spent goes above a certain threshold, which means that the insurance here covers the rest.

Also, to the American members, I don't know how the new Obamacare (ACA) system works, but when you get Proscar subscribed, does it get covered by your insurance? And do doctors usually agree to prescribe Proscar instead of Propecia?
